Hey love bugs! I absolutely hate it when massive things happen in our world and adults don’t stop to help you pick up the pieces of what might be a shattered heart for you. If you have any anxiety over the election read on…
I am writing you today with GREAT humility and a posture of reverence towards Jesus. You can be 100% sure that my only intent is to let you peek inside my prayers for each of us as we move forward after this long hard election season. When I think about my own personal life it’s undeniable that Christ is JUST as alive and active today as he was when he walked the earth thousands of years ago. His presence among us has been, and is still so powerful.
Let me clear the tension…I am not pro-Hillary or pro-Trump. So this is not about shaming or finger-pointing. Yes, I voted. And I am proud to have had that privilege, but whether or not we share the same political views, as sisters in Christ we are all on the same “team”. I don’t want to know who you voted for, or who you would have voted for if you were 18. I am madly in love with each of you and I have a deep respect for all of you, just the way you are.
One of the prayers I have spoken over myself and my family is taken from this Scripture:
“But our citizenship is in heaven…”
I’ve asked God to let this be a precious reminder that as Christians, this earth is not our home. That can sound strange because we live here… I know, I get that. But what we know for sure is that life is short. So short. 85 years if you are l-u-c-k-y. So when we leave earth where we go for ETERNITY, is our “home”. For Christians that place is heaven. I’m asking Jesus to let that knowledge bring peace to you.
Read below what a glimpse of heaven will be like for us…
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4
OK so does that mean we just sit back ignore all the bad things on this earth and wait for heaven? NO. Of course not. Jesus was very clear on what he wants from us while we are here. I just mentioned the topic above to give us all perspective…we have a hope and a future that is good and holy. We will not live in this mess for ever. This is temporary.
What does the Scripture say about our job on earth? Read below…
” And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8
We are called to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk with our God…HUMBLY. Sisters…we can do that regardless of who is President of The United States. Our instructions from the Lord are the same, whether Republicans or Democrats are in the Oval Office. We serve and obey Jesus Christ. He is Lord above all!
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22
Again…Jesus puts it in plain terms for us. “Love Me. Love your neighbor.” DONE. We can do this and we ARE doing this! We will continue to do this for as long as we have breath in us. How do we “Love Jesus and others?” Well, how do you receive love from other people? Words and actions. Worry, fear, and complaining will not advance the Kingdom of Heaven or solve the troubles on this earth. WORDS and ACTIONS will prove who you love.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” Matthew 5:43-44
Jesus has a theme here right?! What does he want OUR part to be? LOVE AND PRAY. Should we pray for Trump? Yes. Hillary? Yes. I’m not making this stuff up! Jesus is asking us to love our enemies and not only love them but pray for them. You don’t have to like that, but it wasn’t a suggestion from Him. So we either are or we aren’t willing to trust that God knows better than we do. He is our Lord or He is not. There is no in-between.
“So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” Romans 14:12
“And I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak.” Matthew 12:36
God hasn’t asked us to help Him discern other people’s hearts….He can see straight through our outer layers and into our souls and intentions. No worries friends…everyone will give an account to Jesus of their words. Politicians included. We can relax on wondering if they will all get away with “murder”. They will not. But to that very point, WE will also be held accountable. Let’s all watch our mouths…Look up Psalm 19:14 later today. It’s a good one for us all.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” Proverbs 31:8-9
He totally wants us to use our voices and platforms and areas of influence to defend the rights of the poor and needy! TAKE ACTION! He wants you to be a woman who spends her life caring about the needs of others. A perfect example of this in my opinion was Mother Teresa. She didn’t waste her time in worry or fear over politics. She read the Bible and obeyed Jesus. Period. And in doing that she had a greater influence over the world than any President has ever dreamed of.
“People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered. Love them anyway.”
– Mother Teresa
“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.”- Mother Teresa
It is tempting to lose hope after an election season that was so super charged with emotion. But we are called by God to be the light in a dark place! We have this unexplainable joy and hope NOT because our life is perfect but because we have the knowledge and gift of Jesus Christ with his deep, wide, unconditional love and grace for us! Don’t forget that!!!
If you are angry with Hillary or Trump I get that. You are justified. But I want to leave you with this lesson from Jesus to ponder. As you read it keep in mind that the Word of God is Truth. It is unchanging. According to 2 Timothy 3:16 it is Holy and ALL of it is useful for teaching. Let’s give this a go…
“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.
For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.
“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?
How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?
Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.”
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come to you today with heavy hearts. I pray that you would gently remind each of us that time and time again in Scripture you told us this world would be full of trouble but that we should take heart and have joy in all circumstances because YOU have overcome the world! You will make things whole and good because YOU are holy and good. Teach us to trust you more. Help us to have MORE faith when things don’t make sense. Give us deep affection and compassion for the poor and needy. Help us to remember that faith without action is displeasing to you!!! Give us the words to sooth our family and friends but above ALL ELSE keep us focused on eternal things and give us BOLDNESS to preach the life saving Gospel of You. Jesus you are before all things, in all things, above all things, in control of all things and you desire to hear us call out to you in our stress…so hear us now Lord. Bring peace and healing as we commit to serve the people you created, love and died for. I have never loved you more Father, never. You are everything to me.
